suggests that hunters believed infusing the point of the spearhead with
shamanic or supernatural power would ensure a successful hunt. The Shumla
spear point depicted here is named for the Shumla Caves along the Lower
Pecos River in Texas, a rich archeological area, and dates to AD 1000 to
1500 BC.
