The person who etched this
Bighorn Sheep may have been a tribal Shaman evoking the animal’s spirit to
ensure a successful hunt, or the hunter giving thanks for its meat and use
of other parts of its body. Paleo-Indians occupied the area of Canyonlands
National Park in southern Utah, where this petroglyph is located, from the
last Ice Age until 1300 AD, when climate change may have forced people and
animals to move on.
